This week, I sat down with Steve Hilton to talk about his vision for California.
I told Steve what I tell everyone: There’s nowhere like the Golden State, and I’m not going anywhere. But I understand why so many are packing up and leaving. They still love California, but they’ve been pushed out by the leaders who failed us.
After 16 years of one-party rule, isn’t it time to try something new?
The cost of living keeps squeezing families. Our gas prices are among the highest in the nation. And small businesses face costs that make it harder to get ahead.
Steve has a plan to change all that. Among his many proposals, he wants to eliminate the $800 annual minimum franchise tax that California small businesses pay just to exist. As a small business owner myself, I know what it takes to build something from the ground up. Every dollar matters. When you’re trying to create jobs, serve your customers, and keep the doors open, government policy can make or break you.
But it wasn’t all politics.
We also talked about what dinner looks like at the Hilton house. And, of course, I had to ask him one of my favorite questions: If you could share a bottle of wine with anyone, living or dead, who would it be? You’ll have to watch the interview to find out. His answer demonstrates exactly why he’s the Republican who can make California golden again.
Our state is worth fighting for. We owe it to the next generation to give it everything we’ve got.
With heartfelt gratitude and resolve,
