There is life in the vineyards 🌿
There is a specific kind of energy that settled over the region this week. After the long, quiet slumber of winter, the vines are officially stirring. We are thrilled to share that Bud Break is here.
While it might look like just a few fuzzy green specs on a woody branch, this is the official "opening ceremony" of the 2026 growing season.
From Tiny Buds to Grand Vintages
For those who haven't followed a full season in the vineyard, it is truly a miracle of nature. Those small, delicate buds you see in the photos below are the biological blueprints for the entire season. Over the coming months, they will stretch and unfurl to become the entire vine—the long canes, the broad shade-giving leaves, and the structure that supports the fruit.
Nature’s math is remarkably focused: from these initial buds, we typically look for just 2-3 clusters of grapes per shoot. It’s a beautiful reminder of how precious every single berry is; an entire year of sunlight, rain, and careful attention goes into nurturing those few, perfect clusters.
Great Wine start with Great Farming
Great wine isn't just made; it is grown. This is a critical time of year for the vineyards.
We keep a close eye on the weather during these weeks because these fragile new shoots are susceptible to a late spring frost—which can directly dictate the ultimate quality in your glass. We believe that a commitment to exceptional farming is the only way to ensure the complexity and character we strive for in every bottle.
The Anticipation is Building
There is an undeniable excitement in the air right now. As the hillsides are a vibrant green and the days grow longer, we can’t help but feel the rush of a new beginning. This is the moment where potential meets reality, and we are savoring every bit of the progress.
We are so glad to have you along for this journey. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as these tiny buds transform into the lush canopy we all love to see.
Cheers to the magic of renewal,
The Team at Republican Red Winery
